Enterprise AI trust has become the central question for global business leaders. Basware Customers, the market leader in Invoice Lifecycle Management (ILM), hosted the event. It united its two flagship customer communities, VIP and NextGen, for the first time. As a result, executives moved past asking whether AI works. Instead, they asked whether it can be trusted.
As AI scales across critical processes, control, defensibility, and trust now define enterprise AI adoption. Together, the two communities represent more than 80 global organizations. They also account for $1.4 trillion in combined revenue. During the sessions, they discussed how enterprises can scale AI without losing control. Moreover, they examined how teams should manage agents acting across critical processes. Finally, they explored how organizations can capture productivity gains while keeping decisions controllable, defensible, and trusted.
Jason Kurtz, Chief Executive Officer at Basware Customers, said: “Together, the customers in the room represent $1.4 trillion in revenue, but across industries and geographies they are asking remarkably similar questions. How do we unlock the value of AI while maintaining trust in the decisions it makes? Basware is helping customers put trust at the center of enterprise AI: AI that finance teams can control, defend, and trust. We have delivered more than 150 innovations shaped with customers, reflecting the challenges they are solving today and the opportunities they expect AI to unlock next.”
Trust Is the Next Test for Enterprise AI
Basware Customers’s 2026 Finance Performance Report reflects the same concerns. The report draws on real transactions across 2.5 billion invoices. It covers 6,500 enterprise customers in more than 190 countries. In addition, it spans over $10 trillion in combined spend.
Among best-in-class organizations, 96.5% of AI-driven coding and approval-routing decisions complete correctly without human intervention. This result shows what is possible when AI runs on trusted data and clear controls. Such AI produces decisions organizations can control, defend, and trust.
Kira Mondrus, Chief Marketing Officer at Basware, said: “The questions customers raised throughout the event were not about what AI can do. They were about what happens when it gets something wrong. Those are the right questions, and finance leaders deserve answers backed by evidence, not promises.”
Innovation Shaped With Customers
The event highlighted the long-standing role customers play in Basware’s innovation process. VIP and NextGen serve as Basware’s flagship customer programs. They bring together its largest and longest-standing customers. This year, both communities met in Dublin for the first time. As a result, customers gained a shared view of Basware’s roadmap. They also gained a direct influence in shaping it.
Dave Francis, Global Business Services, BrandSafway, a Basware customer who joined the VIP event for the fourth year running, said: “As AI becomes more important across finance, we need to know that it can be controlled, that its decisions can be defended and that we can trust the outcomes. This year’s VIP event gave us the opportunity to discuss those questions openly with Basware and other finance teams facing many of the same challenges. That exchange is valuable because we learn from one another and have a direct voice in shaping what comes next.”
Basware Customers input has helped shape more than 150 product and platform innovations. Consequently, Basware continues to set the pace for trusted AI in finance. The event also offered a deeper look at Basware’s acquisition of Trustpair. That deal extends financial integrity across the full invoice-to-payment lifecycle. Additionally, VIP attendees previewed where Basware is investing next in trusted AI. Detailed product announcements will follow through its Innovation Showcase.
Mark Johnston, Chief Customer Officer at Basware, concluded: “The value of VIP and NextGen is not simply what we share with customers. It is what we learn from them. Customers challenge our thinking here, and we turn their insights into measurable value. Trust does not come from AI alone. It comes from combining AI with 40+ years of industry expertise, compliance knowledge and experience of the real challenges finance teams face. That combination of scale, experience, and open discussion is what makes this community so valuable.”
What Comes Next
The conversations will continue through Basware’s upcoming Innovation Showcase webinar. There, the company will share selected examples of its approach. It combines AI with industry expertise, data, and compliance knowledge. Ultimately, the goal is to help finance leaders build greater confidence in AI.
