Spire Global, Inc., a top provider of space-based data, analytics, and space services, expanded its management framework. The enterprise appointed defense sector veteran Eric (“Mell”) Mellinger as its new Chief Commercial Officer. Notably, this critical personnel deployment becomes effective on August 3, 2026.
Consequently, Mellinger will assume full responsibility for the company’s global go-to-market initiatives and cross-functional corporate sales pipelines. He will focus extensively on driving revenue expansion across high-value government sectors and commercial markets. The incoming Chief Commercial Officer joins the firm following a highly successful career at Mantech International Corporation (“MANTECH”). Previously, he served as the Vice President for Business Development & Growth Leader within their Defense & Space Sector.
Proven Pipeline Strategy Across Global Landscapes
During his tenure at MANTECH, Mellinger managed a massive annual revenue pipeline exceeding $4 billion. His targeted strategic planning directly yielded over $2.5 billion in contract awards. Furthermore, he systematically established key corporate alliances with technology leaders including Anduril, AWS, Google, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Palantir, and SpaceX. His extensive oversight also significantly expanded specialized international operations across the Indo-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America.
“As demand for space-based intelligence continues to grow across government and commercial markets, we’re focused on expanding our reach while deepening the value we deliver to customers,” said Theresa Condor, Chief Executive Officer of Spire Global. “Mell has an exceptional track record of turning strategy into execution, building strong customer relationships, entering new markets, and leading organizations that consistently deliver growth. His leadership will be instrumental as we continue to scale Spire’s commercial business and execute on our long-term vision.”
Distinguished Military and Legislative Governance Roots
Before entering the private technology ecosystem, Mellinger directed defense acquisition reform initiatives for the House Armed Services Committee. Additionally, he completed 30 years of distinguished operational service within the United States Marine Corps, retiring as a Colonel. His extensive military tenure included key assignments as a Senior Military Assistant in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. Ultimately, he concluded his service as Chief of Staff of the U.S. Marines in the Western Pacific, located in Okinawa, Japan.
“Spire has built an exceptional foundation by combining innovative space infrastructure with data and analytics that help customers solve critical mission challenges,” said Mr. Mellinger. “I’m excited to join the team and work alongside our customers and partners to accelerate growth, strengthen our commercial strategy, and expand the impact of Spire’s technology across government and commercial markets.”
Institutionally, Spire Global relies heavily on his deep expertise in human factors engineering and national security strategy. The corporation expects the new Chief Commercial Officer to optimize their extensive satellite intelligence product line immediately. Executives expect the new Chief Commercial Officer to anchor their next generation of international contracts.
