SmartBear Appoints Dave Phillips Chief Revenue Officer to Lead Growth as AI Raises the Bar for Software Quality

Software Quality

Software innovator SmartBear announced the appointment of Dave Phillips as Chief Revenue Officer today. The company named Phillips to lead its global revenue expansion and drive go-to-market strategies. Moreover, this executive move helps organizations elevate overall Software Quality during rapid technological change. Phillips will report directly to Chief Executive Officer Dan Faulkner.

In this new role, Phillips will oversee global sales, customer success, renewals, and channel partnerships. Furthermore, he will focus on deepening customer trust while driving new business growth. As development teams adopt AI tools, SmartBear ensures high Software Quality across the software development lifecycle. Therefore, Phillips will work closely with resellers, marketplace partners, and enterprise customers.

Phillips joined SmartBear nearly two years ago as Senior Vice President of Customer Success and Renewals. During his tenure, he strengthened customer retention and expanded key strategic accounts. Additionally, he helped build a customer-centric revenue culture while championing Software Quality standards.

Prior to joining SmartBear, Phillips brings more than 20 years of go-to-market leadership. Before this, he was Chief Revenue Officer at Alyce, where he drove more than 20% ARR growth. He also led sales teams at Quickbase, growing revenue from $25M to $125M. His long career reflects a continuous commitment to improving Software Quality for growing organizations.

Improving application integrity in the AI era

At the same time, AI tools are speeding up software development across the worldwide tech scene. Thus, engineering teams encounter new challenges to guarantee application integrity and test reliability. SmartBear aims to bridge this gap by delivering solutions that protect Software Quality at AI speed.

“Dave has earned the trust of our leadership team, our employees, and our customers by building strong teams, driving execution, and staying relentlessly focused on customer outcomes,” said Dan Faulkner, CEO of SmartBear. “He brings deep sales expertise and a proven track record in customer success. As AI transforms how software is built and tested, application integrity is the standard the market needs to meet, and Dave’s role is making sure our customers have access to the solutions that get them there.”

“We’re at a pivotal moment for software development,” said Dave Phillips, chief revenue officer at SmartBear. “AI is letting teams build faster than ever, but it’s making it harder to trust what’s being shipped. I’ve watched that gap widen on both the vendor and customer side, and it won’t close on its own. That’s the problem I want to spend my time solving helping teams move at the speed AI now demands without losing confidence in what they build and ship.”

Ultimately, Phillips will guide the company’s commercial operations into its next phase of global expansion. SmartBear continues to empower developers, testers, and enterprise leaders worldwide.
